Following taste test research that found that chefs are often unable to differentiate between fresh and frozen fish, Bidvest 3663, one of the UK’s biggest foodservice providers, is rolling out a Fish ’n’ Switch campaign to help customers profit from frozen fish and promote the frozen category’s quality and benefits.

The Fish ‘n’ Switch campaign, which runs during February and March, aims to champion the benefits of frozen fish for foodservice operators, including higher margins and the versatility of products.

Gemma Young, product and marketing manager at Bidvest 3663, comments: ‘The campaign will also highlight the excellent quality credentials of frozen fish, which is often frozen at sea within hours of being caught , sealing in freshness, nutrients and flavour.

‘Products are therefore fresher and often contain more nutritional value than fresh fish.’

Fish ‘n’ Switch has been designed to showcase Bidvest 3663’s frozen fish range, which includes a number of ready-filleted and skinned products chosen to help customers with various skill levels.

Recipe ideas and notes on matching fish with wine have also been designed to help customers revitalise their offer and deliver a great consumer experience which can drive both new and repeat business.

And in order to expand customer understanding of the category, new and improved product information will be available on the foodservice provider’s website and social media channels.

This will be supported by downloadable product fact sheets, a guide to technical terms and a video about the benefits of frozen fish.

The Bidvest 3663 core range of 250 frozen fish products includes a variety of natural, battered and breaded fish products, in addition to prawns and seafood.

Young adds: ‘Brits are becoming more adventurous when eating out, and often choose things that they wouldn’t prepare at home. With this in mind we have designed our range to include unusual varieties such as red snapper, lemon sole and sea bass alongside British favourites, such as haddock and plaice, to excite consumers and encourage new and repeat custom.’
