A 2016 CIS Excellence Restaurant Newcomer Award finalist has become the latest Edinburgh eatery to adopt the growing BYOB initiative for charity. Every Tuesday night, The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen is offering diners the opportunity to bring their own bottle of wine in turn for a £5 corkage fee, which will be donated to the restaurant’s nominated charity, Social Bite.

Visitors will also be able to choose from a range of champagne and wines from the restaurant’s bottle shop. General manager, Mike Lewis, said: ‘Gone are the days where BYOB was frowned upon by fine dining establishments. Many Michelin-starred eateries across the UK are leading the revolution as they see the value in being more flexible and hospitable with customers and allowing them to bring their favourite bottle to a nice restaurant.

‘Our own bottle shop will offer a rotation of wines and champagnes for customers to enjoy with their meal, each accompanied with an explanation so our guests can make an educated decision about their choice of wine.

‘Our approach in supporting Social Bite means our customers can make a difference for a worthwhile cause.’

The not-for-profit Social Bite sandwich shop gives 100 per cent of its profits to good causes.  Co-founder Josh Littlejohn added: ‘We plan to use these funds to provide Christmas dinners for homeless people throughout Scotland on Christmas Day. We also want to provide training and employment programs to really break the cycle.’
