Hans Rissman, Chief Executrive of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, has announced he is to retire in the spring of 2015. The announcement was made by  Councillor Munro earlier today, although no successor has yet been identified to take over the role.

‘Finding a successor for Hans will take time, and the position will obviously attract international interest,’ said Mr Munro. ‘As a city we owe, Hans a great debt having entered the international congress marketplace with an iconic purpose-built facility under his stewardship.’

Sue Bruce,  City of Edinburgh Council Chief Executive, added: ‘Over the last 20 years the conference centre has hosted nearly one million delegates, and delivered an economic impact in excess of £400m to the city.

Additionally, EICC played a leading role in attracting major businesses to collocate and contribute to the regeneration of an important part of the city centre.

A spokesperson for EICC said: ‘Continuity is key for our international customers who book years in advance to bring thousands of delegates to Edinburgh. The global search for the next leader of EICC will take time, and the process will be widely supported by our customers, staff and business partners alike’.
