Since finishing second out of more than 8,000 competitors in the 2016 FutureChef competition, Courtney McDowall has already progressed to bigger things.

Courtney, 16 (pictured second from right) who studies at City of Glasgow College, was rewarded with an experience at Wembley for the summertime ball. Courtesy of Delaware North, she undertook a placement in the VIP area, shadowing executive chef Mark Reynolds, before enjoying the concert.

She said: ‘FutureChef has given me more confidence and I now have a new set of skills. I’ve learned about different cooking techniques and how to put dishes and menus together. Springboard has started an amazing journey for me.’

After winning the Central and South Scotland Futurechef regional final, Courtney beat over 8,000 students to finish second overall.

Aiming to teach school pupils the life skills of cooking and the value of nutrition, FutureChef seeks to provide insight into careers in the hospitality industry and to inspire more young people to build careers in the sector.
