Household favourite Hellmann’s has launched the search for Britain’s Best Burger. Accompanied by new research aimed at finding out what consumers think makes the ultimate burger, the competition has been

The research findings revealed that 47% of consumers want either mayonnaise or garlic mayonnaise in their ultimate burger, compared to 45% who prefer ketchup. It also showed that consumers are very particular about what type of mayonnaise venues use, with 45% saying they prefer a branded product.

Open to all venues serving burgers, the contest comes with grand prize of £10k of PR support for the winner. The competition will also award £2,500 worth of PR to its six regional winners in:

  • Scotland
  • North
  • Midlands and East
  • Wales
  • South East
  • South West

Judges will be looking for evidence of originality, quality ingredients, chef skill, a wide range of choice and positive customer feedback.

Rhodri Morgan, marketing manager at Unilever Food Solutions, said: ‘Burgers remain the number one item on menus and we want to recognise those places doing something special.

‘Consumers have already had their say about what goes into their ultimate burger, and now we want to know what operators have to offer.

Whether it’s perfectly cooked Wagyu beef, speciality mayonnaise, or twice-baked brioche buns, we aim to give them the fame they deserve.’
