Pizza Hut Restaurants has launched its Modern Apprenticeship scheme, which aims to create 250 new apprenticeships in Scotland over the next five years. Launched last week by the Minister for Employability and Training, Jamie Hepburn MSP, the initiative covers a range of areas including food production and cooking and hospitality supervision and leadership. Providing employees with a range of skills required to kick-start long-term careers in the hospitality industry, the programme is being delivered in partnership with ITC Academy and will follow a work-based learning platform, complemented by monthly one-to-one training sessions with an assessor.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Hepburn (pictured centre with Pizza Hut employees Rowan Menzies and Louise Murray) said: ‘Modern apprentices make a real contribution to our economy and I am pleased that large organisations see the benefits they bring to business. We want to increase the numbers of apprenticeships to 30,000 by 2020 and it’s encouraging to see Pizza Hut Restaurants setting their own targets.’

Director of HR and Marketing at Pizza Hut Restaurants, Kathryn Austin, added: ‘We have a responsibility to help grow and develop the next generation and dispel the myth that an apprenticeship is a secondary choice.Quality apprenticeship programmes are an excellent route into the workplace, providing a high level of on-the-job training and support.’
