Over 1,000 guests gathered at Perth Concert Hall earlier this week for a preview of what Scotland will be serving when the global golf community descends on Gleneagles in 2014…

Some of the country’s finest producers joined Scotland Food & Drink and various dignitaries – including the First Minister and Ministers for Culture and Sport – to taste the variety of regionally sourced, premium quality produce that Scotland will be offering when the golfing competition kicks off in September next year.

James Withers, chief executive of Scotland Food & Drink, said: ‘It is anticipated that visitors to Scotland in 2014 will spend almost £33m on food and drink at events, and research by Scottish Enterprise suggests that visitors want to taste traditional Scottish dishes, regional specialities and fresh, locally sourced produce during their time in the country.

Producers including The Highland Chocolatier showed off some of their local creations at the event at Perth Concert Hall on Monday…

‘With that in mind this event forms part of the 2014 Food & Drink team’s action plan to maximise the opportunities for the food and drink sector arising from the major events taking place in 2014.

‘We are building a lasting legacy from the sporting and other major events taking place to ensure that by 2015 Scotland is truly recognised as a Land of Food and Drink.’
