Mains water and  sewerage charges are rising, so reducing water consumption is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to reduce costs and be resource efficient. Moreover, leaks on your premises are your responsibility – and expense. To start saving, you just need to answer two questions: ‘How much water are we using?’ and ‘How much are we paying?’

Taking a meter reading last thing at night and first thing in the morning will detect if there is any unaccountable usage.

Ways to be water-efficient:

  • Use your water meter to monitor and reduce water usage and detect leaks
  • Encourage staff to turn off taps
  • Install water-saving devices in cisterns to reduce flush volumes
  • When water volume is high, introduce tap aerators and flow restrictors which can reduce consumption by up to 70%
  • Consider the use of rain water harvesting systems (for urinal flushing and external planting)

Whether your business uses a lot of water or not, wouldn’t it be refreshing to prevent money being flushed down the drain?
