A young Aberdeen chef has triumphed in the 19-22 year old category at the 12th Accor Professions Challenge, which took place earlier this week in London.

Ryan Jenkins (pictured, front left), of the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House hotel, won the table service contest for his age group, and will now join seven other UK finalists who will go through to the international finals in Paris on 15th January.

Oranised by Accor, the event encourages young people from across hospitality to experience four different areas of business, and is open to employees who are either currently employed in one of the hotel group’s 14 branded hotels, or participating in a work-study contract.

Employees take part in timed contests in four different fields: reception; restaurant table service; cooking; and bar tending. The eight successful UK employees will now qualify for the international final where they will compete against finalists from 92 countries.

Philip Addison, Vice-President Human Resources, Accor UK & Ireland, said: ‘Young people are vital the success of our sector and  it is important that we inspire and engage our employees throughout their careers.

‘The Professions Challenge is an interactive way for them to experience different areas of the business and to get them thinking about the different career paths available to them within Accor and the industry.’
