Astrophysicist Wins 22nd World Porridge Making Championships

An astrophysicist has scooped the title of World Porridge Making Champion 2015. Simon Rookyard, 25, (above) was chosen as the winner by a panel of judges including Gleneagles’ head pastry chef, Neil Mugg; Masterchef Colin Bussey; restaurant critic Ron MacKenna and Jonathan Engels of Crossbill Gin.
The competition, which took place yesterday in Carrbridge, Inverness-shire, is organised by Carrbridge Community Council and challenges contestants to make the best traditional porridge using only three ingredients: oatmeal; salt; and water.
Competitors are also encouraged to enter the ‘Speciality’ category, where oatmeal must be the main ingredient in any sweet or savoury porridge-based dish. Thorbjorn Kristensen’s porridge waffles (left) made the grade this year, the Norwegian’s first time entering the competition.
