CalMac Nominated at Scottish Food & Drink Awards 2016

The UK’s largest ferry network, Caledonian MacBrayne, has been nominated for a Scottish Food & Drink Scottish Sourcing Award for its commitment to buying, serving and selling local produce on board its vessels.
As a supporter of many small- and medium-sized producers across its 200-mile network, the company strives to serve Scottish produce in its dishes, as well as stocking food, drink, artisan skincare and craft products in its on-board shops.
Of CalMac’s 62 on-board suppliers, more than 40 are from across the company’s immediate network area. Onboard development manager, Anne Mitchell, said: ‘We’re delighted to give local producers a platform for their businesses, as well as providing our customers with a true taste of the areas we represent.’
In recent years, CalMac have also developed a programme of pop-up tastings and other opportunities on board its ferries, from book signings to craft ale tastings.
All 10 of the company’s major ferries are now Taste Our Best-accredited (pictured) by VisitScotland for using 50 per cent local and Scottish-sourced ingredients.
The Scottish Food & Drink awards take place in Edinburgh on 2nd June.
