excellence awards 2008Organisers of the CIS Excellence Awards have released the first in a new series of professionally produced videos aimed at promoting the awards ahead of entries and nominations opening in January.

The films – produced by Edinburgh-based Immagine Productions – features past winners of various categories including the Chef of the Year, the Pub Excellence Award, Restaurant Newcomer and Employee of the Year Award.

First to feature is Neil Forbes, whose Cafe St Honore establishment (pictured), scooped the Sustainable Business Award at the 2014 ceremony in May. Speaking to members of the CIS Excellence organising committee, Forbes – who was also crowned Chef of the Year – tells of how the accolade has made a difference to him, his staff and his Edinburgh business since picking up the trophy in May.

‘Winning the Sustainable Business Award has has improved all our lives here in the restaurant,’ he says during the film. ‘Our profits have gone up, our rating with the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) has gone through the roof, and it drives you even more to get better and better.

‘I would recommend entering the awards; get the entry form in, sign it off and write your little piece. Be honest and true, and your personality will come across in that.’

Sponsored by Zero Waste Scotland, the Sustainable Business Award seeks to identify and celebrate businesses operating in Scotland which have
implemented and made use of innovations such as renewable energy sources and biodegradable products while investing in new technology and equipment to minimise energy and water consumption.
