CIS Excellence Awards Release Second Winners’ Film

excellence awards 2008Organisers of the CIS Excellence Awards have released the second in a new series of professionally produced videos aimed at promoting the awards ahead of entries and nominations opening in January.

The films – produced by Edinburgh-based Immagine Productions – features past winners of various categories including the Chef of the Year, the Pub Excellence Award, Restaurant Newcomer and Employee of the Year Award.

And following up from the first film released last month – which features Neil Forbes of the Sustainable Business Award-winning Cafe St Honore – the new production showcases the inaugural Employee of the Year winner, Mandy Gray.

As Compass UK & Ireland’s site manager at Edinburgh Castle, Mandy is responsible for running the catering operation at one of the city’s busiest tourism attractions. Judges in the 2014 awards praised her hard word, dedication and commitment to the role, and hope she will inspire others hoping to enter the CIS Excellence Awards 2015 when nominations open on 12th January.

Speaking in the video, Ms Gray explains how the accolade has made a significant difference to her staff and indeed the entire operation at the Castle since picking up the trophy in May.


‘Winning the Employee of the Year Award has made me more aware if what I can achieve as a manager,’ she explains during the film. ‘It has given me a professional standing and it has made we aware of the talent within the sector.

‘I believe the award should be aimed at all levels, and I believe our front-line team members should be recognised for the jobs they do.’

Sponsored by Mazars Accountants and the Royal Bank of Scotland, the Employee of the Year Award seeks to identify and celebrate the individual who most deserves to be recognised for their effort and contribution to both their role and their employer.

Open to employees of all organisations and operators working in Scottish catering, hospitality and tourism, the award aims to highlight the staff member who has consistently risen above and beyond their usual remit in their daily routine over the previous 12 months. Any role or length of service may be considered.
