New Carbon Metric Helping Scots Recycle More

Scotland is recycling more than ever before and it’s having a positive impact on the environment, according to Zero Waste Scotland, whose newly created carbon metric measures the impact of waste created.
The latest figures were revealed by Zero Waste Scotland Chief Executive Iain Gulland at the Circular Economy Now event.
Taking into account the greenhouse gas emissions associated with waste – from the energy and raw materials involved in production to the impact of transporting materials for recycling – Scotland’s carbon metric also shows the impact of managing waste in different ways.
Mr Gulland said: ‘These new figures show that by recycling more we really are making a difference to the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The carbon metric has the potential to change the way we think about waste, and how we manage it.’
