The initiative – originally conceived and organised by Callebaut, Cacao Barry and Carma – is an international competition which aims to identify the world’s leading chocolatier. Taking place from 28th-30th October in Paris, the three days of competition will require contestants to create a two-metre-high chocolate showpiece, a chocolate layered cake, a gastronomic chocolate dessert, a moulded chocolate, an enrobed praline and a chocolate globe around the competition’s theme, The Architecture of Taste.

Speaking about the forthcoming competition, Ruth – owner of the Cocoa Black Chocolate & Pastry School, near Edinburgh, and the UK’s first ever female Chocolate Master – said: ‘For the past 12 months I’ve spent 25 hours a week training, and have been fortunate enough to receive excellent support from [previous UK Chocolate Master] Mark Tilling, the other Barry Callebaut ambassadors, and Martin Chiffers.

‘It’s been a fantastic journey and I’m looking forward to the event and revealing the efforts of the past 12 months.’

Considered the ultimate challenge for chocolate professionals, the World Chocolate Masters is the only culinary competition based on the performance of an individual rather than a team.

The fifth edition of the World Chocolate Masters will be broadcast live from Paris, allowing chocolate fans to get behind Team UK and watch as the competition unfolds. And this year, for the second time, fans will vote online for their favourite chocolate showpiece. The winner of this special People’s Choice Award will be announced during the award ceremony on 30th October.

Robert Harrison, Sales Director, UK and Ireland, Barry Callebaut said: ‘There is no other culinary competition that demands such high standards of creativity, design, innovation and inspiration from an individual, and I would like to wish Ruth the very best of luck in the forthcoming finals.’
