University of Edinburgh Achieves Sustainability Success

Edinburgh University has become the first such institution in Scotland to be recognised by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA), which awarded the university two stars – equating to an ‘excellent level’ of sustainability.
With all eggs free-range, seafood from British waters and chocolate, tea and coffee produced to a standard which incorporates fair trade criteria, the university met the criteria necessary for two-star status.
Mark Linehan, Managing Director of the SRA, said: ‘The University of Edinburgh is the first in Scotland to achieve such a rating, demonstrating an understanding of its responsibility to serve its customers with a dining experience which isn’t costing the earth.’
Ian Macaulay, Assistant Director (Catering) at the U of E added: ‘This is a great achievement for the whole catering team and it further reinforces our ongoing commitment to the University’s wider sustainability commitment.
‘We will be working hard with the SRA over the coming year to identify ways in which we can make the whole dining experience even more sustainable for students and staff.’
